Senior Technical Staff Member
Alternative display technologies
Steve Rohall is a senior technical staff member (STSM) in the Collaborative User Experience Research Group. Steve is currently working on collaborative decision making. Previously, he has worked on synchronous meeting and editing tools, re-imagining the electronic mail experience, information visualizations, "casual" information displays, alternative viewers for Notes, and mobile computing applications.
Steve joined IBM Research in May, 1998. Prior to Lotus, Steve worked at TASC (Reading, MA) where he led the Visual Information Environment Prototype project, a system for collaborative decision-making using distributed applications and reliable multicast communications. He also worked on a number of Internet-related projects including a subscription-based Web site providing equity information. Before TASC, Steve worked at Bellcore (formerly Telcordia Technologies now part of Ericsson, Morristown, NJ), where he was a developer on the Rendezvous system for building synchronous, collaborative applications. At Bellcore, he also worked on information filtering and user interface development. In addition to real-time collaboration and user interfaces, Steve's interests include network communications and multimedia.
Steve has an SM and an SB in computer science from MIT. More information can be found at his personal website, http://slrohall.com.
