Abe Elfadel

Circuit modeling and simulation

Abe Elfadel is a research staff member in the design automation department at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. His IBM contributions have been mainly to the software tools that help computer designers in using their computers to design and build even better computers. Abe got his Ph.D. from MIT in 1993 and joined IBM in 1996 after stints with a telecommunications company in Japan, a medical instrumentation start-up on the West Coast, and as a visiting scientist at MIT.

Besides being an IBMer, Abe's other professional incarnation is as an adjunct associate professor of electrical engineering at Columbia University. He has ten issued or pending US patents, several IBM awards, and a long publication list that includes contributions on culture and technology to al-Hayat, the international Arabic daily published in London. Somehow he was able to fool the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) into making him a senior member despite the fact that his first college degree was in abstract mathematics and his second was in mechanical engineering.
