Dr. Daniel Russell is a research scientist and senior manager of the User Sciences and Experience (USER) group at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, Calif. His group pursues research on total user experience design, the behavior of people in computational environments and user interface technologies. Before assuming his current position, Dr. Russell managed Almaden’s Web-Based Intermediaries (WBI) team, which successfully launched the WBI as a component of IBM’s WebSphere technology.
Prior to joining IBM, Dr. Russell managed the User Experience Research Group at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center. He was also the director of the Knowledge Management Technologies Laboratory at Apple’s Advanced Technology Group, where he coordinated research efforts in intelligent systems, spoken language, user experience, interaction design and information technology.
Dr. Russell received a bachelor’s degree in information and computer science from the University of California at Irvine, and his master’s and doctorate degree in computer science from the University of Rochester in New York.
