IBM researchers named 2008 ACM Fellows

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has named IBM researchers Kenneth Clarkson, Hamid Pirahesh and Mark Squillante as 2008 ACM Fellows.

The award recognizes ACM's top contributors to computing technology who have generated a broad range of innovations to industry, commerce, entertainment and education.

A formal awards banquet in June will honor Dr. Clarkson for his work in computational geomtery; Dr. Pirahesh for his work in query processing language, and Dr. Squillante for his work in the theory and practice of stochastic modeling. The event will take place in San Diego, California.

“These men and women are the inventors of technology that impact the way people live and work throughout the world,” said ACM President Dame Wendy Hall. “Their selection as 2008 ACM Fellows offers us an opportunity to recognize their dedicated leadership in this dynamic field, and to honor their contributions to solving complex problems, expanding the impact of technology, and advancing the quality of life for people everywhere.”

The other 2008 ACM Fellows were selected from a range of institutions, including Microsoft, Intel, HP, Stanford University, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley and Viewpoints Research Institute.
