Creating a medical note-taking system for physicians

Computer scientists at Columbia University are working with IBM to write the open source code for a responsive display and dialogue system that will let doctors, nurses and medical students take and store notes.

The IBM Open Collaborative Research (OCR) program encourages computer scientists to develop open-source code that will improve the quality of software applications for industry, government and community-based organizations.

Listen to Kathy McKeown and Steven Feiner, computer scientists at Columbia University, talk about their efforts to develop a display-and-dialogue system that will let healthcare providers create complete patient notes. No truly efficient system for note-taking yet exists.
