Attack on cyberspace: Why we have to defend ourselves against the inevitable

Listen to computer scientists from around the world talk about how their projects are changing the way we communicate, learn, get around -- and live our lives.

It's time to do some out-of-the-box thinking

Dr. Alfred Spector, vice president, Google Research, participated in a study for the National Research Council that urges the U.S. government to adopt a Cybersecurity Bill of Rights.

"No one knows what the worst-case scenarios really are," says Dr. Spector, "but as the use of computers grows to more and more domains where they’re really important to the life, safety and economic well-being of the country, we can envision attacks that could take down critical services on the network that people are depending upon for life, or that would have a gigantic impact on the economy if they went down."
