About Electrical Engineering at IBM Research

IBM Research has a long history of supporting the global information technology industry. In addition to doing basic research, we work closely with product groups in all aspects of computer hardware development, drawing heavily on our expertise in electrical engineering and related sciences.

We have developed leading-edge semiconductor process technology that facilitates the exploration of new devices and circuitry. We continue to pursue more advanced concepts in the areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

IBM Research is actively involved in the Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) design of high performance microprocessors that power servers and gaming systems. Achieving designs that take full advantage of silicon technology, while addressing design complexity, places an even stronger dependence on design automation tools, interconnect and packaging analysis and verification technology. These are areas in which IBM Research excels.
