Mobile Computing is both old and new. In the past IBM Researchers have made numerous contributions ranging from technology for handheld and notebook computers to Mobile IP. Today the emphasis is increasingly on Pervasive Computing with active research programs in Hardware and Software Technologies, Applications and Software to allow mobile devices, portable devices and fixed devices to collaborate.
