IBM Research has been active in virtually all areas of Web-related research since the Web’s inception. IBM researchers developed numerous techniques for improving web server scalability, including the technology used to provide dynamic data at some of the most highly accessed Web sites in the world. Also, we proposed new techniques for searching and characterizing the Web, and we developed cooperative and collaborative applications enabled by the Web. IBM Research has a significant contribution to the development of XML languages and tools, and to the development of standards affecting the entire industry, such as those related to Web Services.
