I lead a systems-oriented research team that looks at problems in the delivery of IT services. In particular, we develop technology and analytics to improve the manageability of IT infrastructure.
Prior to joining IBM Research I completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1999. I received my B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1994.

- Problem determination for systems and networks
- New service offerings for systems and network management
- Network performance measurement and diagnostics
I have also worked on:
- Infrastructure for online multiplayer games
- Web and CDN performance measurement
- Internet server selection and load balancing
- Efficient content-aware routing in Web server clusters
- Load-sensitive routing and traffic engineering in Internet backbone networks
- Network and operating system support for guaranteed QoS
- Multicast routing algorithm design and evaluation
- Fault-tolerant group communication in distributed systems
