Research lab: India Research Lab

I am a Research Staff Member at IBM India Research Lab, New Delhi. I received my B.Tech from IIT Kharagpur and my M.S(R) from IIT Delhi (both in CS).

I work in the broad area of IT Infrastructure Resource Optimization. My research interests include algorithmic optimization, web server resource allocation, storage resiliency management and most recently power management.

My current project is 'Power and Virtualization Management' where we leverage virtualization technologies to minimize the power in a data center. The project has led to the design of Emerald Server Consolidation Planning tool that provides administrators a consolidation plan and its Return On Investment (ROI).
We have also designed a runtime dynamic consolidation manager called BrownMap that ensures data centers can deal with reduced power availability.

I am also exploring energy proportionality for storage systems. The work has led to the design of SRCMap, a sample-replicate-consolidate strategy for creating an energy proportional storage system.

My current research interests also include building accurate models for consolidated applications. We have designed the WattApp power meter to estimate power accurately for virtualized servers.
We have also created a new model called Generalized ERSS Tree model that captures contention for all shared resources in a consolidated environment. I am also working on modeling the impact of live migration on performance of virtualized applications.
