Dr. Charles (Chuck) Black is a Research Staff Member in the Physical Sciences department at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York. Since 1999, Dr. Black’s research has focused closely on applications of nanometer-scale self assembly to semiconductor microelectronics.

Dr. Black obtained B.S. degrees in Physics and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University in 1991. He completed A.M. (1993) and Ph.D. (1996) degrees in Physics at Harvard University, under the direction of Professor Michael Tinkham. In 1996, he joined IBM Research as a member of the Silicon Technology department to study prospects for nonvolatile memories based on ferroelectric materials.

Dr. Black has authored or coauthored 40 technical papers and holds 14 US patents. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a member of the American Physical Society, the Materials Research Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
