Senior Manager, Business Transformation and Optimization

Research lab: Haifa Research Lab

Dagan Gilat manages the business transformation and optimization group in the IBM Haifa Research Lab. His group is responsible for the development of mathematical optimization solutions such as the Call Center Scheduler and ECO 2000, the airline crew pairing system. Since joining the IBM research facility in Israel in early 2001, Dagan has helped develop active functionalities that allow applications to detect and respond to customized situations.

As a manager, Dagan has become especially proficient at applying business optimization concepts and technologies across projects. While working on the airline crew scheduling project, he realized that the algorithms used for enhancing pallet and container loading methods in the shipping industry could be adapted to improve air cargo placement. He then supervised efforts to apply the existing solution to the new situation.

Dagan has a Ph.D. in information systems, an M.Sc. in operations research, and a B.A. in computer science from studied the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Before coming to IBM, Dagan helped develop several information systems and operation systems projects, including a simulation system for training hospital staff in mass casualty situations.
