Dr. James Giles is the Senior Development Manager for InfoSphere Streams within the Information Management of IBM’s Software Group. Jim is responsible for development, QA, and technology integration for the InfoSphere Streams product. Previously, Jim was a Senior Technical Staff Member responsible for expanding the role of advanced analytics in business intelligence, including emerging stream analytics in Software Group. Before that, Jim managed the Advanced Platform Services group at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center. There, Jim and his team built distributed resource management for the System S stream processing prototype which is the basis for InfoSphere Streams and conducted exploratory research mapping System S to advanced hardware.
Prior to joining IBM Research, Jim completed a Ph.D. and Masters in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois and a BS in Mathematics and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Evansville.
Jim has also received several patents, an outstanding technical achievement award, and has authored many academic papers.
