Shantanu Godbole did his Ph.D. in the area of text classification from IIT Bombay with Sunita Sarawagi and Soumen Chakrabarti. His thesis was titled "Inter-class relationships in text classification". Before that he did his Engineering from COE Pune, worked for a year in Persistent Systems Pune, and did his Masters from IIT Bombay.
Shantanu joined IBM Research in early 2006. He has been working with the Information Management group and works on text mining systems. His areas of interest are operational text classification systems, data mining, machine learning, and information visualisation. His other interests include travel, amateur bartending, and he is one of the founders of sigfood.org
