I am
at the T.J. Watson Research Center of the IBM Corporation, where I manage
the Mathematical Programming
group, which is in the Optimization Center, which is in the Business Analytics and Mathematical Sciences
Department.
I received my B.S. (1981), M.S. (1984) and Ph.D. (1986) degrees
from Cornell University. My dissertation
supervisor was Bob Bland of
Cornell's Operations Research
Department. I spent 1985-1993 on the faculty of Yale University and
1993-2000 on the Mathematics
Department faculty of the University of
Kentucky, in the Discrete
Mathematics Group. I was a research visitor at the Center for Operations Research and
Econometrics, Université catholique de
Louvain, in Belgium, for the academic years 1991-1992 and 1999-2000,
and an
Adjunct Professor
in the Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Department at Columbia University in 2003.
I was
an academic visitor at IBM for the summer of 1999, and I joined IBM as a regular
employee in the summer of 2000.
I was Vice-Chair for Integer
Programming of the Optimization
Section of INFORMS for 1999-2001 (and Optimization Section
Council member for 1999-2003). I was the founding Managing Editor of the journal Discrete Optimization, (2004-2006).
Currently, I am
an Associate Editor of the journal
Discrete Applied Mathematics,
an Adjunct Professor at the Leonard N. Stern
School of Business, New York University (since 2002),
a Permanent Member of DIMACS,
a Full Member of the COIN-OR Foundation,
an external member of CORC
(Computational Optimization Research Center) of Columbia University,
and a member of the Working Group on Discrete Optimization of the
IFIP
(International Federation for Information Processing).
