Biography

Dr. Kyung Dong Ryu is a Research Staff Member in the Advanced Operating Systems Group at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. He has been working on the End-to-End System Performance Optimization project, focusing on IBM p and z series servers, AIX and zOS, and WebSphere middleware. He has also been leading the Blue Pencil project, optimizing Web Services in SOA, and the Scalable System Management Solutions project.

Before joining IBM Research, he was an Assistant Professor at the Arizona State University (2001-2004), where his research focused on PC Grid and Operating Systems for High Performance Computing. As a faculty member, he was awarded two NSF grants as a co-PI and lead a few industrial research projects funded by the Research Consortium with Intel and Motorola.

He published over 30 papers in premier international conferences and journals, including IEEE/ACM SC, ACM ICS, IEEE IPDPS, IEEE TPDS, ACM Eurosys, and ISCA. He was an Executive Committee Member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing (TCPP). He has also served as KOCSEA president and chaired KOCSEA Technical Symposium during 2005-2006, and has been organizing International SMTPS workshop since 2005. He received a B.S. in 1993 and a M.S. in 1995 from the Seoul National University in Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in 2001 from the University of Maryland, College Park, in Computer Science. He is a member of IEEE, ACM.
