Liang Gu received the B.S. degree, M.S. degree and Ph. D. degree in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1993, 1995 and 1997, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2001. Dr. Gu joined IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, New York in 2002 as a post-doctoral researcher. Since 2004, he has been with IBM T. J. Watson Research Center as a Research Staff Member. His research interests lie in speech and language processing including automatic speech recognition, speech translation, automatic speech call routing, pattern recognition and digital signal processing. Dr. Gu is currently a key research member in the IBM Speech-to-Speech Translation team developing advanced real-time large-vocabulary multilingual speech-to-speech translation techniques. He is one of the main contributors of the IBM MASTOR Speech Translation system. His current research involves highly accurate and robust statistical speech translation techniques for multilingual conversations in limited domains.
