In 1996, Qin Yong join in IBM China Research Lab after getting Ph.D degree in speech signal processing at Institute of Acoustic (IOA) of Chinese Academy of Sciences. During the past 9 years, his job widely covered research and development activities of IBM speech products, including the first Mandarin ViaVoice Dictation System, IBM ViaVoice Telephony Runtime & Tools (Mandarin, Traditional Chinese and Cantonese version), IBM Websphere Voice Server (Mandarin and Cantonese version), IBM Embedded Viavoice (Mandarin and Traditional Chinese version) and Speech Transcription/Analytics Technologies. His expertise ranges from speech recognition to speech coding and speech application.
He has a strong technical background in project management, requirements gathering, software architecture design and systems development, besides his solid technical knowledge in C/C++, PERL, Shell Script, TCL/TK, Python, XML programming languages and strong speech signal processing theory. His recent focus is mainly around broadcast news and conversational speech transcription and analytics technologies, ranges from audio signal segmentation, speaker clustering, robust acoustic model adaptation/training and language model building.
