I am a Software Engineer at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center (Hawthorne), working in the area of
Programming Languages and Software Engineering, in the High Productivity Tools group. I am currently working on IMP, the IDE Meta-tooling Platform, for creating language-specific IDEs in Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org/imp/).
At IBM I have previously worked on the Concern Manipulation Environment and in the Advanced Enterprise Middleware group, and on projects relating to business transactions, advanced messaging, concern modeling and manipulation, embedded-software modeling, change management for electronic design, and natural-language analysis of bug reports.
Prior to joining IBM I held post-doc and staff positions at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where I worked mainly on projects relating to the design, implementation, and use of languages for programming software-development and other processes. At other times and places I have also held positions in industry as a developer and Quality Assurance Engineer.
At a time still in the Late Holocene (but just barely) I was a Geologist as the Colorado School of Mines Research Institute, in both the Exploration and Mining and the Environmental Technology divisions.
Research Interests
Software engineering, software process, workflow, process modeling and modeling languages, software engineering practices and principles applied in other domains (such as governance), aspect-oriented software development, concern modeling, consistency management, long transactions, analysis of artifacts and activities from across the life cycle to support processes and practitioners throughout the life cycle (Knowledge == Power).
