Zhen Liu received the Ph.D degree in Computer Science from the University of Orsay (Paris XI), France.
He was with the France Telecom R&D as a Research Associate from 1986 to 1988. He joined INRIA (the
French national research center on information and automation) in 1988, first as a Researcher, then became a Research Director (see my INRIA Web page for more details). He joined IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in 2000, and is now senior manager of the Next Generation Distributed Systems Department. Zhen Liu is a fellow of IEEE, a member of the IFIP W.G. 7.3. He has served NSF Panels and a number of conference program committees. Zhen Liu was the program co-chair of the Joint Conference of ACM Sigmetrics and IFIP Performance 2004. and is now the general chair of the ACM Sigmetrics 2008 Conference.

Zhen's current research interests are in distributed and networked systems, stream processing systems, sensor networks, performance modeling, distributed optimization and control. Zhen Liu is currently leading several projects in these areas, including in particular one on automatic software application composition for distributed stream processing systems with the security and privacy guarantees, another one on the management of heterogeneous sensor networks, and a third one on the messaging middleware with guarantees of security, resiliency and quality of services.

While he was with INRIA, Zhen Liu was also an adjunct professor of the University of Paris VI (University of Pierre & Marie Curie) and the University of Nice - Sophia Antipolis, France. He taught DEA (i.e. Frecnch graduate) courses of Operations Research, Networking and Parallel Computing, and advised Ph.D. students in these areas.
