Research:
Areas of interest:
- Memory access optimizations
- Analysis and transformation of programs for parallel processing
- Use of runtime techniques to improve compiler optimizations
Currently, I work on compiler optimizations to reduce the amount of execution time that an application spends waiting for memory accesses to complete. This work is being developed in the context of the IBM XL compiler for the Cell architecture. I also work on the single-source Cell compiler that enables OpenMP programs to automatically execute in parallel across the multiple heterogenous cores on a Cell chip.
In the past, I have worked on providing sequential memory consistency in a just-in-time Java compiler, on domain-specific extensions to a virtual machine, and on applying fine-grained pointer analysis to automatic parallelization of numerical codes.
