Cryptographic Hash Function Design

The recent attacks on MD-5, SHA-0 and SHA-1 by Wang et al has given a huge impetus to research in designing practical cryptographic hash functions as well as further cryptanalysis of existing functions.
Here is some of our recent work in this area:

1. A Simple and Provably Good Code for SHA Message Expansion,
Charanjit S. Jutla (IBM) and Anindya C. Patthak (Univ. of Texas at Austin).

2. Provably Good Codes for Hash Function Design,
Charanjit S. Jutla and Anindya C. Patthak.

3. Is SHA-1 Conceptually Sound?,
Charanjit S. Jutla and Anindya C. Patthak.

4. On The Cipher Code of SHA-1,
Charanjit S. Jutla and Anindya C. Patthak.
