Lawrence Bergman

My research interests focus on making computer systems more usable by
providing user-interfaces and visualizations that are well adapted to
particular tasks. My current project, Personal Wizards, is developing
tools to aid in collaborative capture and use of procedural
knowledge. Previously I have worked on developing tools for assisting
developers of multi-device applications (the HOPI project), and on
content-based image retrieval tools

Vittorio Castelli

I started the Personal Wizards project in 2003. My main interests are
in the general areas of pattern recognition, information theory, data mining,
information retrieval, and probability theory.
My previous work is on foundations of Information Theory, on memory compression,
time series prediction and indexing, performance analysis, on methods for improving
the reliability and serviceability of computer systems, and on digital libraries for
scientific imagery.

I am a research staff member at IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA.
I completed my PhD at the University of Washington's Department of CS&E in 2001. My thesis advisors were Dan Weld and Pedro Domingos.
My research goal is to develop innovative interfaces for enhancing human productivity and creativity through the use of techniques drawn from artificial intelligence. My research interests include intelligent user interfaces, machine learning, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, programming by demonstration, and email classification.
