Business impact
Ability to attract more customers with advanced wireless solutions.

Issue
As a mobile operator, Shanghai Mobile Communications strives to continually provide various value-added services. But the company was uncertain of just what kinds of solutions were possible given the current wireless infrastructure.

Executive summary
IBM Global Business Services helped Shanghai Mobile Communications set up a demo center to show leading technology and value-added service applications to their customers. They brought in IBM China Research Lab, which proposed two applications: wireless local area network (WLAN) positioning and interactive media. Shanghai Mobile Communications accepted both of them. By engaging IBM, Shanghai Mobile Communications has been able to garner more ideas on how to provide value-added wireless solutions for its customers.

What IBM did
IBM Global Business Services and IBM Integrated Technology Services (ITS), along with the IBM China Research Lab, deployed a wireless experience center for Shanghai Mobile Communications to provide advanced wireless demonstrations for potential customers.

Capabilities applied
WLAN positioning and interactive multimedia services developed by IBM China Research Lab were used to create the wireless experience center.
