Business impact
IBM’s China Research Lab in Beijing was brought into this IBM Global Business Services engagement to demonstrate the leading-edge methodology and tools that could be used to capture and describe ZMCC’s workflow. The client was very satisfied with the result.
Issue
With more than 6,300 network base stations and 14 million mobile users, China Mobile Communications Corporation is one of the world’s largest mobile telecommunications operators. Zhe Jiang Mobile Communications (ZMCC), one of its 30 subsidiaries, wanted to enhance employee collaboration and knowledge sharing. Its key challenge was the difficulty of capturing and confirming the complex business processes with multiple parties and multiple roles in such a large company. IBM's Global Business Services consultants brought experts from the China Research Lab into the project to demonstrate solutions and capabilities that would help the company effectively understand, capture and streamline its processes.
Executive summary
Because determining the requirements for a workflow process was the main bottleneck, the China Research Lab worked with IBM Global Business Services to capture eight key business processes using role-based business modeling – and they finished outlining the requirements in less than two weeks. Researchers interviewed each ZMCC department to determine its particular needs and develop a global view of the entire business process.
What IBM did
IBM Global Business Services designed and implemented a business-to-employee portal to facilitate internal management and information sharing. IBM’s China Research Lab used a service utility to compile and analyze key business processes and quickly put them to work.
Capabilities applied
The China Research Lab assisted IBM Global Business Services in collecting client requirements and capturing management processes with IBM WebSphereŽ Business Integration service utility for model-driven business integration.
