Research Staff Member
Research lab: Austin Research Lab
Juan Rubio is a research staff member at the IBM Austin Research Lab, where he explores techniques to manage power and thermals of computer servers and data centers.
Juan has been involved in the Autonomic Management of Energy (AME) project, which lead directly to IBM Active Energy Manager. He was actively involved in the research and development of the EnergyScale framework, which enables the power and thermal management of IBM POWER6 systems. He is also involved in the development of power management technologies for future IBM processors, and their integration into high level policies and controls.
Currently, Juan is researching models and techniques that enable the end-to-end management of power, thermals and reliability of data centers.
Juan received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. His dissertation explores a hierarchical architecture to improve data access in large complex workloads. He received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Universidad Santa Maria La Antigua, Panama in 1997.
